VSA arts of Wyoming's programs are designed to increase the level of commitment
to cultivate the artistic potentials of all Wyoming citizens, regardless of any
disabilities. Program focus is divided into the following categories:

VSA Arts of Wyoming National Programs

VSA arts of Wyoming participates in three national VSA arts programs in the areas
of visual arts, music, and literary arts.

National Children's Call for Art
This program will solicit at least one piece of visual art from each state for inclusion in a
national exhibit in Washington, DC. That exhibit provides visibility for VSA arts and promotes
public education on VSA arts programming.

International Young Soloist Program
The VSA arts International Young Soloist award annually recognizes outstanding young
musicians with disabilities and supports and encourages them in their pursuit of a career.

The Writing Project
This call for flash fiction, poetry and spoken word is an opportunity to draw out the expressive
minds of students through the written word, while also addressing educational standards in
reading and writing.

Across the state of Wyoming, VSA W partners with various art councils, art agencies,
schools, museums, an equine facility, a single parent homeless shelter, and adult
day-hab facilities to provide art education programs. Program focus is divided into
the following categories:

1) Educational Programs and Teaching Artists Residencies.
These programs include teaching artists residencies or other types of education
programs that often involve family and/or community partnerships in single
workshops or sustained programs. Included in this category would be after school
programming, visual art classes, drama classes, and other forms of art instruction.
These programs are available to children and adults with and without disabilities.

2) Professional Development and Technical Assistance.
This program provides one on one consultation and instruction for individual artists
in programs that support career development for artists with disabilities.

3) Public Awareness and Outreach.
This category focuses on multi-media Art presentations with a primary objective of
raising awareness of the wider community. Through events open to the public
VSAW hopes to increase public awareness of the need for inclusion of all citizens
in the arts and art education. Included in this would be gallery shows, exhibits,
performances, and participatory multi-media art experiences, designed to
showcase artists with disabilities.

In addition to the above VSA W is proud to sponsor two other programs:

1) The Kids on the Block is a troupe of life-size puppets with disabilities. They
perform statewide to enhance education and promote positive attitudes toward
people with disabilities.

2) The Christmas Pageant of Peace Ornament program provides supplies and
related materials and expenses to Magic City Enterprises in Cheyenne, Wyoming
for production by their clients of 50 ornaments for the Wyoming state tree at the
annual Christmas Pageant of Peace in Washington, DC. Excess funds are used to
create ornaments for the Christmas tree at the capitol in Cheyenne.
